To stop discriminatory pricing – we need your help.
When you are shopping, and see pricing that discriminates, you could ask for the manager and make a complaint. But the manager of the store will probably tell you that they have no “control” over the prices. This simple step will likely have little impact, except it might make you feel better.
What can we do together
The pricing policies are usually set by the head office of the large business that owns the store or supplies the franchise. So the manager, or the employees, of the store – can do little to make any “change”.
On the other hand, if our collective voices get to the people who are “in control” – public pressure can create change.
The two places where we need to deliver our message are:
- Our legislators who make the laws to prevent discrimination and protect the people who need help the most.
- The corporate executives who make the decisions that are currently hurting the disadvantaged in our community.
How we can reach them
We can use public pressure through a variety of ways to make sure that our message reaches the right people.
We can:
- Share the message and the stories personally with our friends and other consumers.
- Put messages on local message boards and social media sites where they might be listened to.
- Write individual letters to retailers and lawmakers or sign petitions with a strong message that we want “fair” prices.
Please give us your ideas on how we can “share the message” so it will be heard.
